Volunteer Song

During our Preparation Seminar in Belgium, one of our tasks was to write a song about our experiences trading objects with Belgian inhabitants in the area.

We're up all day to be Friedis

(to the tune of “Get Lucky”)

Intro

With the legend of the Friedis

Walking through the Belgium landscape

Meeting people who are friendly

Trading objects that we can take

When the sun shines on our shoulders

Trees, and raspberries surround us

We don't feel any borders

River sparkling right below us

1. We've come too far

to return

To Berterath

Drove

in the dark

Didn't know

Where we are

Refrain

We're up all day in the sun

Walking around to have fun

Don't know where we have gone

We're up all day to trade buckets

We're up all day to trade flowers

We end up with a milk can

A flower bouquet full of corn

A flyer, champagne, apricots

We're up all day to trade coffee

Intro2

With the legend of the Friedis

Walking through the year behind us

We met people who're amazing

And learned about things that we can save

When the sun shines on our shoulders

And loved ones surround us

We don't feel any borders

We've understood the other culture

2. We've come along

through a year

Of peace work

And now

We've arrived

To a place

We weren't before
